Lessons of Love

“Mom, how will he be?”, I had asked the day before my wedding. I didn’t know him- a typical arranged marriage with all its flaws. Though we had about ten months after engagement, he was not the “romantic show-offs type” who constantly called or text-ed. Forget calls, he hadn’t even met me once in those days!! Hence, the dilemma in my heart was pretty natural. She just said, “Darling, he is going to know everything about you..how you sip, how you dance, how your face looks underneath your makeup…how you love chocolate, how you can be hyper at times…actually most of the times…how you love your TV Shows and make you really happy…how you get cranky when you’re tired and you think you look fat and bad in all your photos. He’s going to know everything about you. But you know what, I’m sure he’s going to adore you and love you…” I was very scared then and wept like a two-year old.

But now, when I turn back to that very moment, I realize she was right.

Love was what I had learnt from him. It was just a word until he had given the definition. As we now step on to our first anniversary,(oh yeah, in a week’s time!!!! 🙂 🙂 ) I now realize that anyone can buy flowers and candy and jewelry. But love is in all the everyday things you do to show you care. It is the way you hold your hand when you know she is scared, or the last piece of cake you save for him. It is about putting your favourite match/show on pause so she can tell you all about her day. It’s slow dancing in the kitchen and kissing in the rain. True love is in the gestures.

I had had a fascination to the famous Bible quote: “Love is patient, love is kind…” Always wondered, whether I will get that true love. And here I am, swept off my feet, finding the true soul-mate of my life. Here’s to you my friend, my love, my soldier! 🙂
