Guns ‘N Roses #AtoZChallenge

If you ask me what comes to my mind when I think of an Armed Forces Officer, then I would definitely say the love for their toys and chivalry.

Their love for their machines, arms and guns is eternal and beyond words. They are very sensitive towards their guns, their rifles and it is a personal weapon to them- a best friend in times of trouble. They have undoubtedly mastered the art of handling the weapons and equipment having been trained, firing them from different positions in difficult situations and conditions.army-149126_1280

We get goosebumps when we see the Forces handling a tank and fighting a war in movies. Remember the final scenes from the movie ‘Border’?

The actual experience is far from our notions, P (my husband) says. “It is like getting into a heated oven and your movement is restricted because of the confined space. However, I do cherish the memories I have, having been driven one as part of my training”.

One of the best things I love about my soldier is his expertise in driving his vehicle. The speedometer often touches a 100 while he drives our car, but I have never once asked him to slow down. There was never a speck of fear in me in all these years. I definitely would’ve screamed my lungs out if it was someone else in the driver’s seat. And I’m not advocating reckless driving either.

Men in uniform are trained to drive their vehicles, be it a gypsy or a heavy loaded truck, be it in the high-ranges on the foothills of Himalayas, or the arid deserts of Rajasthan or the snow-clad mountains of Leh- they do it with ease and style. Guess I needn’t talk about their crazy fascination towards Royal Enfields- the Bullets! Yes, don’t get me started! They also have this uncanny ability of surviving in jungles without food and shelter and pitching up a tent in a jiffy.

But whoa! They are the perfect gentlemen!

I remember the first time we went on a date, the next day after our engagement, to Cafe Coffee Day, of course after seeking permission from both sets of parents. Ha, the perks of arranged marriage! I had placed the order and when I came back to sit, he had pulled the chair for me! Stupid me! I thought he had pulled it for himself and I went ahead to sit on the other. He was of course, flabbergasted but so was I. Chivalry! How would I have known he was so different and perfect from ‘other boys’!army-958204_1920

He might open the door for you, surprise you with roses. He stands by his lady, is protective and courteous. He respects women and would do the needful when in trouble, without battling an eyelid. He is calm and composed in difficult situations but intolerant towards injustice and prejudice.

He is chilled out, up for a party at any time of the day, loves his family but only second to work. Oh they say, Army before Family! He adores his Uniforms, polishing the stars as if they have fallen right from the skies. He cherishes his friendship and the deep bond they share with each other. He can swim, ride a horse, box, play golf, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, hockey..oh the list seems endless.

Gosh, he is a complete package, of Guns ‘N Roses- literally! 😀

I am Married to the Olive Green and I’m writing about the 26 things which I get to do/experience that you as a Civilian wife do not!
