Zesting up my Life

There are many things that give me butterflies in my stomach- as in a thoughtful gesture, kind words or a big heart, in beautiful people and the color red, in sunsets, beaches and a giant wave, in diamonds, funky earrings and bangles, in an empty road or 2000 ft above sea level, in rain or a book store or an unexpected phone call, in a camera and an infatuation, in an honest smile or my doggie playing with a ball of yarn, in drawing a smiley face on the steamed-up glass with your index finger or a yellow Nano car on the roads 🙂, in a big teddy and tattoos and  then…. so many, many things.. the list goes on..

But here, I am… Picking up my favourite “Zestful” moments 🙂

Dance was something which I was always very proud of. Being a trained classical dancer, I have won many a hearts and it was always a passion. It was in my nursery days, when I first danced on stage. I still remember, wearing a pretty little pink frock, dancing to the tunes of, “Lulu skip to mu Lou, Skip to my lou, my darlingUntitled…a popular partner stealing song and dance from the American frontier period. I still hum the song and I am sure Mom remembers the same. She was seated in the front row along with other proud parents. I was so full of content and felt like a superstar when I leapt in joy showing off my “Little Oxford Dictionary”.(That was the award, though).

While I don’t dan20e82686b7f51cc334bcdeae522dea03ce anymore, as somewhere along the lane, I had gotten busy scoring grades, joining a job and settling down in a beautiful married life-I do shake a leg at a party or a get-together. It is true, “You know you are a dancer, when you have an uncontrollable urge to choreograph every song on your Ipod.” And I know, I am one.

The day wouldn’t get better when your phone rings, “Shalini, Congratulations! We’re glad to inform you that you are our  lucky winner for today!” A pat on the Back definitely gives me a boost -whether it’s by winning contests, a special mention on your fellow blogger’s post, a remark, “You look good”, “I love your earrings”.

“Winning means you are willing to go longer, work harder and give more than anyone else.” Doesn’t mean you write only with the aim of grabbing a prize. Writing is a free form of expressing one’s thoughts. And as Neil Gaiman said, “The one thing that you have and nobody else has, is you- Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision.”

A Thoughtful Gesture: I’m not a morning person and hence going to work early in the morning seems like a very boring, tediousdifficult, Herculean task for me. So, it was just another day when I was reporting back to work in a drowsy, somnolent self. I had a hundred things running in my mind like work, shopping for grocery, cooking dinner and SLEEP. I had crossed the security gate and a young security officer wished me Good Morning with a smile on his face.  I was dumb-struck for a second but returned back a smile and wished him the same. It might just be a “Good Morning” wish for him- or re-enforcing the rule to greet all the employees- or he might have felt I badly require a smile to come on my face. Whatsoever, such random gestures brighten up my day.

“It’s better to see something once, than to hear about it a thousand times.” Travelling is another in my list that adds
zest to my life- be it a long drive or travel to places unknown. In spite of seeing beautiful places, you get to street shop 🙂 I love collecting a token of remembrance from places I visit.

Last, but definitely not the least- Music!! It can both  heal and zest up your mood.  I remember on a Sunday morning finding my Mom busy trying to download songs from the Internet. She is the first one to introduce me to “Boney M’. It was a treat to the eyes when she shook her legs at “Ma Baker”. Music takes you down the memory lane. It is a stress-buster. Else why would you plug in your headphones while at wok or when you try doing a Maths homework. Yes, I have done both 😛

So, what adds Zest to your life?
